Summer air conditioner maintenance

You probably know that if you are living in a city where the summers are really hot, the AC needs to be in top condition in order for it to work properly on those scorching summer days. This is the time of the year when air conditioners are used in full swing (pardon the pun) and prove their might. Here is how you can do some home maintenance for your air conditioner.

Change those filters
You should change your air conditioner’s air filters every 40-60 days depending on the climate of the area you are living in. If you don’t clean the air filters, the dust, dirt and other particles that are present in the air, get stuck on them resulting in blockage of proper air flow. Less air flow equals less cooling.
It also depends on the lifestyle one is having at home such as having lots of pets or one really furry animal. The hair from cats and dogs can also go inside the air filters and overtime you can have a big fur ball blocking the air filters.

Coil cleaning
You can easily do this without even calling in a professional to do the job for you. All you need to do is to clean the outdoor condensing unit if you have a centrally air conditioned home. The coils help in distributing the hot and cool air from the air conditioner and so if they are not cleaned, a lot of dirt and dust can clog them up.

Clear all the blocks
Always make sure that the air vents are free from any obstructions that might be blocking the proper airflow in your home. There should be no furniture, toys, books, machinery etc. in front of the vents.

Check other problems
Ensure that the cooling is good, no leaks, blockages, frozen coils etc. If all of these are good, say hello to a problem free summer cooling.
